Self-adhesive trading cards

Selfix, the Zurich label printing company, produces Panini-style collector's cards for the popular city of Zurich soccer club. Their "FCZ Total" booklet is to feature the entire club: from the smallest LetziKids junior to the president. A real challenge for the label professional Selfix AG.

Pure Zurich

Clearly, in Zurich the club colors blue and white have been known since time immemorial; FC Zurich (FCZ) is one of the oldest and most traditional sports clubs in Switzerland. The first team plays in the Super League and has won the Swiss championship twelve times and the Swiss Cup nine times. The club has played its home games at Letzigrund since 2007.

FCZ united in a collector's booklet

However, FCZ is not just the team itself, it includes everyone involved and fans, from the fan store staff to the top players. Saro Pepe, head of the FCZ Museum and the person responsible for the project explains: "In the booklet "FCZ Total" the whole club is represented: From the smallest LetziKids junior to the president, from the fanshop staff to the fitness trainer, from Soheil Arghandewall to Fabienne Humm to Marco Schönbächler to Lavdim Zumberi. FCZ united in one booklet! The aim is to capture the club and its environment through a lively portrait." And so, with its scrapbook in the popular Panini style, printed in full color, the club says thank you to its admirers, spectators and fans.

Selfix comes into play

Choosing the right partner for the scrapbook's adhesive images was crucial, given that no fewer than 400 different soccer images in top print and adhesive quality were involved. And that's where Selfix, the traditional Zurich label printer, comes in. Because these adhesive images have to be able to do a lot. There are various requirements such as print quality, color fastness and variety of types. The production, finishing and final inspection of the 400 varieties requires great quality awareness. In these high-quality processes, all the individual parts must fit together seamlessly. In addition, the adhesive images must not lose their properties until they are glued into the scrapbook. Selfix AG, as a complete label supplier, guarantees this reliability, traceability and continuity thanks to its many years of experience and was thus awarded the contract for the multifaceted project by FC Zurich.

400 image types: print quality, variety and flexibility

When choosing the type of printing, Selfix opted for digital printing because of the high level of specifications, flexibility and variety of types. Selfix can already look back on great successes with the introduction of its TAU330 UV inkjet digital press and is therefore implementing the project with it. Above all, the short printing time is convincing. Kurt Fischer, owner of Selfix AG, knows: "The short makeready time, the lightfastness of the inks, the resulting economy and quality are convincing. When things have to be done quickly, the company delivers from good to print within a few days. The speed advantage is greatest when a large number of different jobs are to be printed in relatively short runs Not only can labels be produced more cost-effectively using digital printing thanks to the rapid production time, but the costs of producing a physical print template are also eliminated. This plays a major role, especially for adhesive images with 400 varieties. All data is recorded and processed electronically.

FCZ and Selfix a super team

Saro Pepe, head of the FCZ Museum and responsible for the project, is enthusiastic: "The choice of our partner Selix convinced us, not only because of the spatial proximity with Selfix, but above all because of the impressive print quality with the new TAU330 digital printing machine and the flexible possibilities with regard to the more than 400 soccer pictures. We hit the bull's eye!"

FC Zurich (FCZ)

The album consists of 80 pages with 400 corresponding adhesive images. Each FCZ team (LetziKids, Academy, women, professionals) will be represented in the scrapbook on a double page with all players and the respective team photo. "Total FCZ" also serves as a companion publication to the special exhibition "Stars from the FCZ Academy," which has been running at the FCZ Museum since September 2, 2017.
The pictures will be sold in bags of five for CHF 1.00 each. The album and the adhesive pictures are available at all FCZ locations in Zurich (FCZ Fanshop, Letzigrund, Utogrund, Heerenschürli) and at selected points of sale in the city (stores and bars). Sales start for the collector's album "FCZ Total" is Friday, October 20, 2017, in time for the FCZ vs. GC derby. In the stadium, flying salespeople will launch the album on all stands on October 21, 2017.

FC Zurich was founded on August 1, 1896 by former members of the three local clubs FC Turicum, FC Excelsior and FC Viktoria. Subsequently, FC Zurich developed into one of the best-known and most successful clubs in Switzerland. Until the 1930s, FC Zurich was also active in other sports, such as rowing, boxing, athletics, handball, and so on. Later, the sporting activity was then concentrated exclusively on football, where so far also the greatest successes could be celebrated
